Practical tips to help you play better — from beginner through to intermediate level.
Table position is everything in poker. Playing from a late position (close to the dealer button) gives you a significant edge — you act after your opponents, so you have more information before making your decision.
Don't play every hand you're dealt. Beginners often fall into the trap of playing too loosely — stick to premium hands like big pairs and strong suited connectors for more consistent results.
Betting consistently relative to the pot size keeps your opponents guessing about the strength of your hand. Avoid undersized bets, as they give opponents an easy opportunity to call with weak hands.
Pay attention to your opponents' betting patterns. A player who consistently check-calls may be holding a weak hand. A sudden large raise could signal either a strong hand or a complete bluff.
Before you play, set a maximum loss limit you're comfortable with. Once you hit that limit, stop and come back the next day. Self-discipline is the most important skill in poker.
"Tilt" happens when emotions take over your decisions after a big loss. Step away for a moment, take a deep breath, and only return to the table once you've fully composed yourself.

Poker is more than a game of chance. For those who truly understand it, poker is a contest of skill, strategy, and emotional discipline played out behind a veil of cards. In Malaysia, the poker community is growing rapidly — and BK8SG is the platform that gives players of all levels the space to play, learn, and grow together.
BK8SG offers the most complete poker room for Malaysian players. From casual Texas Hold'em tables with blinds as low as RM 1/RM 2 to VIP High Stakes tables at RM 200/RM 400, every player can find a table that fits their skill level and budget. This range of options is what sets BK8SG apart – you never have to worry about the stakes being too high or too low, because there is always the right table waiting for you.
Alongside Texas Hold'em, the most popular variant, BK8SG also offers Omaha Hi-Lo for players seeking a different challenge, Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) favoured by experienced players for its bigger pot potential, and Fast Fold Poker, which lets you play more hands in less time by instantly moving you to a new table after folding.
One of the standout features of the BK8SG Poker room is its daily active tournament schedule. The BK8SG Daily Freeroll lets all registered members join at no cost, with prizes of up to RM 500 distributed among the winners — making it the ideal starting point for new players to gain tournament experience risk-free. For more serious players, the Malaysia Weekly Championship, featuring a RM 50,000 prize pool, is held every Saturday night and has become a must-mark date on the local poker community's calendar.
BK8SG also features a unique Bad Beat Jackpot — a special prize awarded to players who lose despite holding an exceptionally strong hand, such as four of a kind or a straight flush. The current BK8SG Bad Beat Jackpot has climbed past RM 22,000 and grows every single day. So even when a tough hand doesn't go your way, you still have a chance to walk away with a substantial payout from this exclusive jackpot.
On the security front, BK8SG's poker system is equipped with advanced anti-collusion and anti-bot technology that continuously monitors gameplay patterns to detect any suspicious activity that could compromise game integrity. Cards are dealt using a Random Number Generator (RNG) that has been independently certified and regularly audited. Together, these measures ensure every game on BK8SG is fair for all players.
The BK8SG poker experience is fully optimised for mobile devices. The clean, responsive interface ensures you can clearly see your cards, the table, and all key information even on a smaller phone screen. Real-time notifications alert you when it's your turn to act, so you never miss your window in a tournament or ongoing table game.
